The Carlisle Community School District, located just southeast of Des Moines, is a rapidly-growing district that includes the cities of Carlisle, Hartford, Avon Lake and a portion of southeast Des Moines.
The district enrolls approximately 2,100 students in four schools. Carlisle High School, a boys 3A school (2A soccer) and girls 4A school (2A soccer) serves students in grades 9-12. Carlisle Middle School, which was built in 2007, serves grades 6-8. Hartford Upper Elementary, the only school not located within Carlisle itself, serves students in grades 4 and 5. Carlisle Elementary School, which is immediately adjacent to the high school and the district office, serves students from pre-kindergarten to grade 3.
While Carlisle is located just 15 minutes from the state capital, the area has retained all of the benefits of small-town life. Residents are able to enjoy the benefits of two worlds: a charming small town set in an inviting natural setting, and the entertainment, dining, shopping and sports offerings of the state's largest metro. Voted one of the top-10 safest cities in Iowa by SafeWise, Carlisle is a community of some 5700 people who enjoy the high quality of activities associated with two rivers, a river basin, valleys and vistas, nature trails and bike trails. The school district offers abundant opportunities in terms of both curricular and extra-curricular activities, while maintaining manageably sized schools and classes.
