The Carlisle baseball team opened up the 2019 season with 7-4 victory in Pella on May 20. The Wildcats recorded two quick runs in the top of the first frame after Troy Schnathorst and Darek Tingle ripped RBI singles, but that early lead was erased when the Dutch plated four in the bottom of the first inning. Nile Foss had a tough time finding the zone early, but settled in nicely in the second. Foss went six innings, striking out nine and only allowing three runs.

"Nile had a tough time finding his rhythm early on but he really bounced back in a huge way for our team," said Head Coach Blake Heitmeier.

The Wildcats would go on to put up three more runs in the second and added two two in the fourth. Tingle closed the game for Carlisle, as he worked out of a bases-loaded jam to earn his first save of the season. "I thought our boys did a great job at competing all night long," Heitmeier added. "It was kind of up and down to start the game, but we all settled in and were able to get the job done. This is the youngest varsity team I have put on the field in my five years in Carlisle. I thought our guys really played well for their first varsity experience and our veteran players demonstrated grit and leadership to help put us on top tonight."

The Wildcats were rained out Tuesday against Chariton but will travel to Norwalk on Wednesday, May 22, to play the Warriors.
