The Carlisle Wildcats used a second half surge to defeat Centerville Monday night 83-75 in district basketball action. The Cats found themselves down 43-33 at half, but outscored The Big Red 50-31 in the second half to seal the victory.
Leading the way for the Cats was junior Collin Lister with 29 points including a season high six three-pointers. Senior Tommy Donovan tallied 22 points to go along with 11 assists. Senior Max Goodhue scored 18 and finished a perfect six-for-six from the field. Goodhue also blocked four shots; with those four blocks Goodhue became Carlisle's single season record holder for blocked shots. Senior Cole Henderson also had a great all-around game by scoring 10 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, dishing out 8 assists, and swatting 7 shots.
Coach Poldberg commented, "Our defense was really poor in the first half. We made some half time adjustments and our guys played with a real sense of urgency the entire second half." Poldberg also noted the leadership of senior Ben Rowray, "Ben is a vocal leader for us and his defensive energy really transferred to the whole team in the second half."
The Cats move on in tournament play and will host Pella for a district championship Thursday night at the Barn in Carlisle at 7 p.m.
