The 2018-19 Carlisle Wildcat boys basketball team is excited for another year of Cat Hoops! A season ago, the Cats won 15 games and came up one game short of the state tournament. This year's squad hopes to build on the success of the past few seasons and put together another strong campaign.
Leading the charge for the Cats are senior returning varsity players Collin Lister, Trenton Beck, and Nolan Brunsen. Last year, Lister was one of the top scorers in the state (20.5 ppg) and also surpassed the 1,000 career point scoring mark. Beck and Brunsen both played prominent roles on last year's team and will continue to do so this winter. Seniors Preston Thompson and De'Shawn Garrett will be called upon to play important roles in the success of the Wildcats. Juniors Hayden Amos, Nate Norton and Jace Vollstedt will also need to step in as major contributors this year. Caleb Wenthe, Max Mitchell, Chase Bowlin, Karson Dunn, Jacob Imhoff and Cole Osterhaus are all part of the current varsity roster.
Coach Seth Poldberg, who enters his fourth season with the Cats, is excited for the year. "Practices have been focused and competitive thus far. We know we have a very challenging schedule and a tough conference. Our team goal is to improve every night, whether in practice or in games, and hopefully we will be playing our best basketball come tournament time." Joey Aguirre has moved into the varsity assistant role, while Jordan Buell will take over as the junior varsity head coach. Dan Clark returns to lead the freshmen.
The Cats host Nevada in a Hall of Pride scrimmage on November 20th. Fans are encouraged to bring a new toy in support of the team's Christmas toy drive for Blank Children's Hospital. The season officially starts November 27th when the Cats host DCG.
