The Carlisle Wildcat boy's track and field team looks to improve on a successful 2016 campaign by relying on eight seniors and 20 total returning letter winners.  Six of the top ten scorers from 2016 return along with 76 percent of the team's points from last season when the Wildcats finished second at both the Raccoon River Conference Meet and the Class 3A District 7 state qualifying meet.  The Cats also placed 12th at the Class 3A state track and field meet.  There are currently 92 Wildcats on the roster: eight seniors, 34 juniors, 20 sophomores and 30 freshmen.

The top returners include seniors Dallas Wright, JJ Orput and Andrew Black, who all finished in the top four last year in points scored.   Other returning letter winners include seniors Josh Felger & Gabe McCaughey, juniors Riley Derrickson, Tommy Donovan, Kallen Glawe, Cole Henderson, Nate Mortimer, Cutler Palar, Kacyn Pickering, Nate Ramirez, Ben Rowray, Cooper Schettler, Dane Wright and Ethan Wright, as well as sophomores Nolan Brunsen and Carter Logue.  Wright and Black were both on the state championship shuttle hurdle relay squad from 2016, while Wright also finished 6th in the 110m high hurdles, 8th in the 400m hurdles, ran on the 15th place 4x400m relay team. Orput finished 5th in Class 3A in the 3200m run and 14th in the 1600m run.  Black finished 11th in the 110m high hurdles, while Rowray (4x400m relay), Goodhue (4x400m relay) and Mortimer (4x100m relay) also bring back state-meet experience.

There will be several new faces looking to make an immediate impact in the Wildcat line-up. These top newcomers include seniors Jacob Howat, Josh Black and Anethon Thiravong, along with juniors Ben Jones, Owen Durham, Cam Smalley, and Connor Smith. Sophomore newcomers looking to solidify places in the varsity lineup include Trenton Beck, Jonny Flaws, Vaughn Gibson, Romello Gray, Collin Lister, Ethan Reed, Bo Struve and Zach Willcox. Several talented freshmen will also look to contribute at the varsity level this spring.

The team's first outdoor meet will be held on March 21 at Simpson College.
