Boys Start Indoor Season at Demon Relays

Several members of the Carlisle High School boys' varsity track and field team competed at the 2017 Washington Demon Indoor Track and Field Meet on March 10th held at Cornell College over the Wildcats' spring break.  This meet had 29 teams, including eleven 4A teams and 10 3A teams.

Seniors Dallas Wright and JJ Orput both had impressive outing in their first meet of the season.  Orput, who set the school record in the 1600 last year (4:28.69) claimed the title in 4:32.43 after a great come from behind finish in the final 400 meters.  Orput's time currently sits 4th in the state overall for all classes. Wright again showed why he is one of the top hurdlers in the state by winning the 60-meter high hurdles in a time of 6.44.  His time also moves him into 4th place in the state overall for all classes.

Junior Max Goodhue also had a great night on the track and in the field for the Wildcats. Goodhue soared 20'6" in the long jump to claim second place, while also finishing 5th in the 60-meter high hurdles (6.83). Other top finishes include senior Drew Black in the 60-meter high hurdles (6th in 8.88), while junior Tommy Donovan tied for 7th in the high jump (5'8"). Junior Riley Derrickson finished 7th in the 400m dash (55.54), while sophomore Nolan Brunsen finished in 9th place (55.76) to round out the top-10 finishers.

Other top-25 individual finishes include junior Kacyn Pickering finishing 12th in the 200m dash (24.79), sophomore Trenton Beck 13th in the high jump (5'6"), junior Owen Durham 16th in the high jump (5'4"), sophomore Romello Gray 19th in the shot put (41'10") and freshman Kolby Fritz 19th in the 1600 (5:05.96).

The 4x400-meter relay squad of junior Ben Rowray, Goodhue, Pickering and Wright finished 4th in 3:38.33, while the 4x800-meter relay squad of Rowray, junior Cutler Palar, freshman Hunter Snyder and Fritz claimed 10th in a time of 9:07.14. The only other relay event at this meet was the 1600-meter distance medley where freshman Bryce Murray, senior Gabe McCaughey, Beck and freshman Tanner Peterson finished 23rd
