The Carlisle boys' track & field team competed at the Class 3A state qualifying meet at DCG High School on May 10. The Cats racked up 130 points, but were edged for the team title by ADM, who scored 132. Carlisle earned five automatic bids to next week's state meet along with six at-large qualifying events. The state track & field meet at Drake Stadium is May 16-18.
The Wildcats earned individual bids to the state meet in seven different entries. Senior Trenton Beck won the district title in the long jump by soaring 21'4. Senior Nolan Brunsen qualified for the state meet by finishing second in the 110 meter high hurdles in 15.21. Sophomore Jacob Imhoff qualified for the state meet with a career-best 23.17. Sophomore Quincy Griffin qualified for the state meet with a career-best 52.67. Other state meet qualifiers include junior Kolby Fritz in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:03.21, Beck, who also qualified in the 110 meter high hurdles after running 15.41, and senior Sam McPhee who earned a spot by jumping 20'4.25" in the long jump.
The Cats also qualified four relays. The shuttle hurdle relay team of Beck, sophomore Karson Dunn, Imhoff and Brunsen punched its ticket to state with a winning time of 60.25. The 4x400 meter relay team of Griffin, Imhoff, Fritz and Brunsen ran the second best time in school history (3:26.11) to finish as runners-up and qualify for the state meet. The 4x800 meter relay team of senior Jon Flaws, junior Kyle Miller, junior Tristen Kessler and Fritz ran 8:15.94 (third best in school history) to finish as district runners-up and state qualifiers. The 4x200 meter relay team of junior Jace Vollstedt, sophomore Nic Goodhue, junior Hung Hoang and Imhoff ran a season-best 1:33.67 to also qualify.
The Wildcats also had several additional career-bests and top finishers. Beck finished tied for third in the high jump (5'8) and freshman Aiden Chanthavong finished tied for fourth (5'6). The 4x100 meter relay team of Vollstedt-Goodhue-Dunn-Hoang finished third in 45.76. Senior Carter Logue ran a nine-second career best to finish fourth in the 3200 meter run (10:17.40). This is the seventh fastest time in school history. Kyle Miller ran a career-best 2:05.74 in the 800m run to finish fourth (9th best in CHS history). Kessler ran 4:48.78 to finish fourth in the 1600m run. Brunsen finished fifth in the 200m dash in 23.47 seconds. The 800m sprint medley relay team of Vollstedt-Goodhue-Hoang-Justin Neely finished fifth in 1:40.88. The 1600 meter distance medley team of Dunn, McPhee, sophomore Ethan Schlichte and junior Nate Norton ran 3:51.34 to finish fifth. Junior Hayden Amos finished sixth in the discus (134'0), while fellow junior Holden Smith finished seventh in the shot (42'11, career best). Junior Hunter Snyder finished sixth in the 400m hurdles (career bet time 60.34). Sophomore Brandon Kesner finished seventh in the 3200m run in career-best time of 10:25.97. Sophomore Matthias Beattie finished eighth in the 100 meter dash in season-best 12.30 seconds.
