Despite losing six senior starters from the 2016 state runner-up squad, Carlisle finished fifth in the 2017 state softball tournament with an overall record of 28-15. The Wildcats finished 9-5 in the Raccoon River Conference, good for third place behind state champion Winterset and state runner-up Ballard. Fourteen of the fifteen losses during the summer were to ranked opponents.
Seniors Taylor Dubois, Agatha Beier and Alexis Wyckoff were excellent leaders on and off the field for the Wildcats. Taylor, a first-team all-conference and all-district third baseman who hit .507 her senior campaign, was named to the class 4A all-state first team and was also selected to play in the senior all-star game. Agatha earned second-team all-state honors in addition to her first-team all-conference and all-district accolades as a catcher hitting .523 to end her prep career.
Other first-team all-conference players were sophomore Alyvia Dubois and freshman Kennedy Preston. Alyvia also earned third-team all-state honors and was named to the 4A all-tournament team for her outstanding play in Ft. Dodge. Second-team all-Raccoon River Conference selections were junior Sara Scott and freshman Meredith Hoffman. Freshman Delaney Schnathorst earned honorable mention honors in arguably the toughest conference top to bottom in the state.
The Wildcats led all 4A schools with their .394 team batting average and fielding percentage of .965. True to their style of play, the girls also led the state with a 152 stolen bases on the year.
