A mix of strong leadership and youth will help guide the Wildcat wrestling squad this year. Four seniors will be the catalyst for improving on a 12-6 dual record, a third-place finish in the Raccoon River Conference and an overall championship at the North Polk Invitational. They will have some big shoes to fill with the graduation of six seniors from last season.
Led by second-year team captain Travis Johnston and first-year captains Cody Hutchins and Ethan Reed, Carlisle's team looks to bolster the middle weights to even out the roster making it a tough lineup from top to bottom. With summer workouts, a new Warren County Freestyle Club and summer camps in the books, the Wildcats look to see their hard off-season work pay dividends during the 2016-17 campaign.
The majority of the team comes from a strong sophomore class, who helped propel the Wildcats in tournaments. Conference champion Carter Logue will look to improve in his sophomore campaign after falling just short of qualifying for the state meet last season.
The program will also add a few new Cats to the mix. Freshmen Bryce Murray and Peter Comer, in addition to others, look to make their mark. These two young wrestlers placed in tough AAU brackets last season.
Four home meets highlight the schedule that includes bouts against RRC foes Ballard and Perry as well as matches against Interstate-35, Knoxville, Saydel, Lincoln, Pleasantville and Martensdale-St. Mary's.
