Believe it or not, the wrestling season is winding down just as the Carlisle wrestling team is rounding into form. The squad won a pair of duals at Carlisle on Jan. 19, dispatching Perry 59-21 and then toppling Des Moines Lincoln 44-34, taking the final two matches for the victory.
"(Against Lincoln) we won that dual with a great win from Carter Logue over his eighth-ranked opponent at 113. Senior Kaleb Reed (132) was able to come back with a pin in the last match to seal the victory," coach Jason Mehrhoff said. Tyler Squires (132), Darek Tingle (145), Orrey Reed (160) and Cody Hutchins (220) all recorded pins.
There was much less drama in the Perry match as seven Wildcats stuck their opponents. That group was comprised of Reed, Jordan Watts (138), Tingle, Travis Johnston (182), Kallen Glawe (195), Dylan Barnes (285) and Peter Comer (106).
"Logue and Comer have been battling in the practice room with each other and their teammates to make a push into the post season," Mehrhoff said. "We have been lucky to add a few wrestlers to our lineup who have been injured most of the season."
"A few other wrestlers in our middle weights have been coming on strong by working hard and working on their technique to make themselves successful," Mehrhoff continued. "Our seniors have come along and are wrestling well going into the latter part of the season. With conference coming up this week we have really had some wrestlers fine tuning to be prepared for the post-season run."
Carlisle will travel to North Polk for a double-dual with Carroll Jan. 26. Saturday, Jan. 28, is the conference tournament at A-D-M.
