Girls Finish Fifth at Ballard Invite

Girls Finish Fifth at Ballard Invite

The Wildcats competed in extremely hot and humid conditions against the biggest and best field of teams at a meet this regular season at the Ballard Invite. The girls were able to finish fifth out of 12 teams in the Class A race, and seventh out of 23 overall in the combined divisions. Class 3A No. 1 Ballard was the team champion. Ainsley Erzen won her third consecutive race to start the 2019 season. Her time of 19:17 was also her third course record of the season and topped nearly 25 other ranked runners from 2A and 3A, finishing 38 seconds ahead of the runner-up. The girls once again delivered a great team performance despite resting three of the top seven runners. Four of the remaining five varsity runners were freshmen, continuing their growth and development. The freshmen finished 13th (Tessa Erzen), 43rd (Riley Sievers), 58th (Laura Downs), and 61st (Bella Pagel). The team was excited to welcome back Ella Andersen to the scoring line-up. The junior had not completed since injuring her foot in a track meet last March. She finished 47th overall.  The junior varsity team placed 11th overall in the combined divisions. The girls will next compete in the Heartland Classic this coming Saturday at Central College.
