Wildcats Fifth at Indianola Inviational

Wildcats Fifth at Indianola Inviational

After weeks of heat or rain, the Wildcat girls cross country team finally got to race in ideal conditions, and they took full advantage.  Nine of the 10 opponents are in Class 4A as the Wildcats once again stepped up a class to challenge themselves before the championship phase of the season. The girls finished fifth as a team, only seven points behind 4A power Ames. The Ankeny Centennial girls won the meet for the second consecutive season with an impressive score of 39.  The individual race was billed to be a great one as 3A No. 1 Ainsley Erzen and 4A No. 1 Camille Jackson squared off.  Jackson was able to hold off Erzen with a spectacular new course record-time of 18:25 to Erzen's 18:43. The previous record was 19:11, set by Erzen last fall. Overall, five of the six varsity runners ran personal- or season-best times on what is traditionally one of the toughest courses in the state.

In the junior varsity division, the Wildcats finished 7th out of 12 teams.  Bella Pagel led the way with a new personal best time of 24:59. The remaining 4 junior varsity runners also ran personal or season best times.
